Usdaw General Secretary Election 2008 Result

Robbie Segal scored a moral victory against incumbent general secretary John Hannett in the election. In what can only be described as a pitiful turnout Hannett only secured the votes of 27'320 Usdaw members (7.8%). This must be seen as a massive vote of no confidence in his performance in the job. In any other sphere Hannett would be required to submit his resignation, but he and his supporters will no doubt see this as a major victory.
Robbie must be congratulated on her vote and support from ordinary Usdaw members for the programme of radical change which she put forward in the face of vehement attacks from the union hierarchy and some area organisers.
